The Theme Switcher lets you quickly switch between a dozen or so WordPress themes.

All of the themes are free, although some do request a link to the developer’s website.

The site is set up to work with Atahualpa, an amazingly flexible theme which lets you control hundreds of design elements from the WordPress dashboard.

Some of the themes don’t display the sidebar, and the Theme Switcher is thus unavailable. If you get stuck in a theme like this, use your browser’s BACK button to get back to the previous theme.

Search engine optimization is simple. You can find out all you need to know about it in the short guide Google released in November last year, the Google Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide.

So… if it’s so simple, why do so many people do it so badly?

There are a couple of reasons for this.

First of all, the exact method used by Google to automatically rank websites is kept a closely-guarded secret. If everyone knew exactly how Google’s algorithm worked, Google would have to develop a new way to rank websites, and they obviously don’t want to do that.

Everyone has their own opinion on exactly which elements on a website would lead to a higher ranking.

Secondly, websites are generally created by web designers. Their main interest has always been in creating websites which look terrific. The truth, however, is that websites which look great seldom work well for search engines. Google can’t read all that brilliant sales copy hidden in a scrolling Javascript window.

One thing SEO experts are quite certain of - Google doesn’t decide which site should come first in their results based on how fabulous the website is to look at.

There are a number of elements SEO’s are sure of. For instance, having your keywords in the title of your web page is very important. In fact, many SEO experts believe that it’s the most important element on a web page.

So why, then, are there so many web pages (over 8 million in Google’s index) with the title text “Untitled page”?

Or websites where every page has the exact same title?

Making these elementary errors on your website could banish it to the Website Witness Protection Program - full of websites that never appear in the search results.
