Description(Last Updated On: March 15, 2018)
Citations are mentions of your business on third-party websites which include your business name, address and phone number.
A mention does not necessarily include a link to your website, although many do. An example would be a listing on a review site like Yowzit.co.za.
Google uses local citations to determine that you are in fact a real business, and that the location and contact details for your business are correct.
It’s very important that every listing you get uses exactly the same Name, Address and Phone number – the ‘NAP’ information.
If three different websites list three different addresses, Google will have less confidence in your business.
All things being equal, a business with a larger number of accurate citations will tend to rank better than a business with fewer listings or poor quality listings.
